Elements of Inspiration is a set of system-neutral random encounter generators for tabletop roleplaying games, built to make overland travel exciting and varied with no preparation. This is the instant-download digital edition.
Nine Environments
Deserts, Forests, Mountains, Plains, Swamps, Tundra, Underground, Urban, and Waterways. Wherever your party is walking, there is a section for it.
How It Works in the PDF
The content is presented as rollable tables for quick random generation, followed by the full entries laid out page by page for reference. Each entry gives a titled encounter and a short general description, then four specific options beneath it. Roll a d4 or pick the one you like.
So an Ambushing Monster in the Desert section becomes an ankheg spraying acid across the party, a sandworm collapsing the dunes into its maw, a bulette erupting from the rocky floor, or a dune mimic with adhesive skin. Roll twice and consider how the two encounters interact if you want something more eventful.
Entries are written in shifting tenses to suit the scene, an ambush in the present tense to convey urgency, and you should feel free to change them, moving an encounter to the party's next rest or making them deal with its aftermath instead.
Why the PDF
The tables make this the fastest version to use if you already roll dice for everything else, and you can search by environment or encounter name instead of shuffling. Keep all nine environments on a tablet, and copy encounter text into your prep notes or a virtual tabletop. Being system-neutral, it works with 5E D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowdark, Daggerheart, Draw Steel, Tales of the Valiant, or a system of your own.

Very organized and readable, inspiring tables- great for a kickstart to the creative process.
I really enjoyed the the layout and the random design of it.
This is a great, efficient resource for combat and noncombat encounters that has many options but not so many that it's difficult to dig through. Very happy with the book!
