I won't repeat my review of the companion book Ultimate NPCs: Skullduggery, but this book is worth purchasing for DMs that want access to well written NPCs that can be dropped into any campaign at a moments notice. It sounds easy, but repeatedly coming up with an interesting NPC with a compelling story at a moments notice is not always easy and having a resource to do that for you is incredibly valuable.

An excellent compendium of npcs to use as soldiers and guards in military campaign to challenge the party. The characters included are also an impressive with their lore and stats and plot hooks on how to use them. Fantastic book and must have for GMs.

Great Book filled with interesting, creative and easy to use Npcs. This book gave me a great idea for a campaign and I will definitely be using many Npcs from the book in my world. 10/10 would recommend! =)

This book focuses on martial characters who deal with battle as part of armies and other military-style groups. It begins with a large encounter table for all of the characters in the book, which is always going to be handy. The characters are arranged in good, neutral, and evil sections, and each section also has a writeup for four different guilds.

Each character has a stat block four every four levels so you can just pick them up and toss them in just about whenever the PCs might encounter them. There's also some history, roleplaying tips, and brief fiction scenes about encountering them. The different versions take up one page, and the PDF is well bookmarked. In short, it's laid out like other Nord character books (which is not a bad thing!).

Characters are drawn with various poses and attitudes, which is great for quick inspiraion. I love Alma Cropley because not only is she an older character with gray hair, she's a veteran halfling and looks the part. Private Bowlde is adorable as the clumsy soldier who's a better chef, and I know I could make him stand out in a heartbeat. Seriously, the art was worth every penny they spent on it.

This book stands out in that it is almost balanced between male and female characters; there's only one more male character than female. They're also shown in a variety of roles.

I also really appreciate the later section which has stat blocks and encounter tables for generic NPCs like guards and mercenaries. Some unique items and spells round out the book and are thematically in keeping with the focus of the whole thing (which comes in at 225 pages).

I hate to admit it, but NPC's are not my strongest asset when it comes to games. This is very useful to me and I wish I had this when I first started running games!
