Each chapter takes one kind of undead or cursed creature — ghosts, ghouls, liches, lycanthropes, vampires, and others — and opens with detailed material on its origins, its habits, and the places it haunts, before presenting a wide range of stat blocks so the same creature never shows up twice in the same form.
What Each Chapter Gives You
After the lore comes the practical material. Encounter group tables let you roll a ready-made assembly of the dead or pick one to suit your party, with the challenge ratings already added together so you know what the group is worth before you run it. Loot drop tables cover what remains once the creatures are put down, so rewards emerge from the encounter itself.
Stat blocks span the full range of challenge levels, from the first restless spirit a level one party meets up to horrors that end a campaign, each with its own artwork.

I absolutely love this book for the lore and alternate stat blocks for undead. There is so much potential here for customizing encounters and throwing new, creative monsters at your players. The writing is great, the stats are balanced, and I love the variety of monsters.
I have been playing D&D since the Moldvay red box set, and I played and ran every edition except 4th. After D&D 3.5, I loved crunchy games, but I regarded the crunch as a tool to build really good background. As a DM/GM, I regard the crunch as the gears, hoses, and cogs you see under the hood, and the players really only need to see the skin you put over all those gears. 5th Edition does more to put the skin over that crunch while still giving me tools to build great encounters. And that's what this publication has done: given me tools to customize supernatural encounters to creep out my players. Thank you.
Lots of cool monsters in here for anyone running a campaign with a lot of undead. Heads up, it's mostly variants of existing monsters, but it keeps those low level undead like Ghouls and Specters frightening without having to bog down action economy with 25 of em.
